"Tears"

Tears of sorrow, tears of grief.
Tears of sadness, give healing relief.

Tears of anger, tears of wrath.
Tears of vengeance, with no clear path.

Tears of courage, tears of resolve.
Tears of strength, that fight for a cause.

Tears of joy, tears of gratitude.
Tears of happiness, accentuate attitude.

Tears of understanding, tears that listen.
Tears of compassion, void of conditions.

Tears with emotions, that silently shout.
Full of deep meanings, softly stream out.

POET'S COMMENTS

Society has often defined "tears" as a sign of weakness. As I have observed human behavior through several decades, I submit that tears represent so much more than a weakness or inability to control emotions. Tears accentuate meaning.

Behind the flow of a tear comes a complex set of circumstances that cause the individual to feel something intensely. Certainly tears represent an amplification of some emotion. The emotions that generate tears can be as diverse as physical pain from an injury, to emotional feelings like uncontrolled happiness. Tears add life to expression.

If there is a message to be found in "tears," it is the phrase;"this is important to me!" The message to the witness, is that this person feels deeply in that moment. Perhaps understanding tears will help each one of us to feel more empathy, and more compassion towards our fellow beings.

I am thankful for tears and what they teach. It is said; that even "Jesus wept."
