"Christmas Eve Memories"

The leaves have fallen! Crisp dew crackles under boots!
Icicles hang flowing! Stars sparkle and shoot!

Cheeks, red and rosy! Cold nipping the nose!
Winter's night calling! Flakes of glitter and snow!

Hanging mistletoe! At the head of the stairs!
The scent of pine! Sweet cinnamon in the air!

Warm now inside! Off with the scarf!
Parents and siblings! Gathered by the hearth!

Reflections of flames! Dancing embers in the eyes!
The aroma of cocoa! Mugs in hands, by sides!

Tiny children in pajamas! Cuddling by the fire!
A decorated tree, in the corner! A time to inspire!

Mother's soft kisses! A snuggling circle is found!
Safe and secure! Quiet love, there abounds!

Father smiles, while reading! The story of a child!
Each small one listening! Amazed and mild!

In their minds, visions! Of shepherds and kings!
A star so bright! Heavenly angels sing!

Peace and happiness! In moments so dear!
A family forever! As Christmas is near!

POET'S COMMENTS

The fondest memories of any child and parent often come during the Christmas season. Some twenty five years ago on a snowy night in Utah, my little family circled around the fireplace. There we enjoyed the nativity story of a blessed and wonderful child born in a manger. In Luke 2 we read and imagined, what it was like on that sacred night. It was one of the ways we bonded our forever family.

On that special night in Bethlehem, the world would never be the same, nor would our eternal destinies. His entry into mortal life was celebrated on earth and in heaven. Isaiah says it so well:

"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." (Isaiah 9:6)
