"My Needs Are Great"

He told the Lord his needs today, a bigger house, luxury car, more pay.
He ask for help that God would say; "You need the trip, so get away!"

"All the good that I could do, if Thou wouldst kindly follow through!
For I have worked hard in all my days, and am deserving, of time to play."

"My needs are great, I plead dear Lord, the things that I must have.
All important for thy son, that he might feel glad."

The Lord looked down and gently grinned, at his sincerity.
And thought, "my son, you have forgot, my generosity."

And God let fate, there took its course, to teach a lesson on remorse.
The young man lost his job that day, his house, his car, and all his pay.

Finally humbled, and without delay, he fervently, began to pray.
"I know dear Lord and must concede, my heart was truly, full of greed."

"A tent, some food, my health will do, if Thou wouldst kindly follow through!"
"My wants are gone, my needs more clear, if Thou wouldst only calm my fear!"

And God looked down, on this troubled soul, extended His hand, let truth unfold.
The bread of life, living water too, refreshed his hope, and faith renewed.

And on that day his needs were met, for he God lifted, his heart content.
The gifts from heaven, they far exceed, worldly things that only impede.

POET'S COMMENTS

One of the greatest stumbling blocks for man on this earth is focusing on what is really important. What we perceive in our eyes as "needs," are often "wants."

Our Heavenly Father sometimes tries to teach us that if we have truth, we have everything. As long as we have sufficient for our needs, we are blessed. Heavenly Father knows best what we need.

This poem is interesting, because the man depicted, requested twice with the same politeness, "if Thou wouldst kindly follow through." First it was for wants, and then it was for needs. He had forgotten how blessed he was to begin with, later to see the things of the world are of less
importance.

He also discovered the joy and peace that comes when the gospel of Jesus Christ is savored. His heart was made content, his faith enlarged, his hope increased. He received two gifts; living water and the bread of life. His worldly wants lost their value, and were replaced with eternal pursuits of great worth.
