"If There Were No Light!"

What would I do, if the sun and the moon,
Their light, no longer to rise?

Would I dwell in dark places? And dream of their faces?
And wish I could be surprised?

Would I miss the smile of morning sunbeams?
The evening kiss of a full moon's glow?

Would I mourn the loss, of trials each day?
With no light in the darkness to show?

Would I be glad? To see no future?
No enlightenment, to guide my way?

Would I accept the good, and the bad as it comes?
Without inspiration, from hope's calming rays?

With full purpose of heart! I will embrace the light!
Despite approaching hardships, that will be!

Let the sunlight rise! And moonlight shine!
For eternal truths, and understanding, given me!

POET'S COMMENTS

Imagine pure blackness! The absence of light! What it would be like to live under such circumstance? If there were only darkness, what would we see? What would we feel? What would we learn? How would we grow? Could we progress?

There would be no meaning to life, physically or spiritually. Consider a choice: Pure blindness, a happy life with no light, free from decisions, trials, hardships, pain, sorrow, and adversity!

Or, a life with light, filled with hardships, trials, and opposition. What would you choose?

The decision, I would think, would favor the later. With that choice, an expected change in attitude and understanding should occur. "I am so thankful for the light!" "What freedom the gift of choices provides!" "I will love life, despite adversity!"

Gratitude for light (physical, and spiritual) is the "pearl of wisdom" hidden within the poem, "If There Were No Light."

The scriptures teach us that Jesus Christ is the light in the darkness! Through Him, we find hope, comfort, and understanding!

"Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." (John 8:12)

"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls." (Matthew 11:28-29)

I think it is interesting that "the Man of Sorrows" (Isaiah 53:3) felt such great cause to rejoice.

"In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight." (Luke 10:21)

Often, the greatest men of God to walk the earth, had the hardest lives. Why is this? Yet, in their adversity, they achieved the greatest works and eternal happiness. They embraced the light that was given to them.

The blessing of light, can never be underestimated. To be able to see life! To be able to feel inspiration! To be able to have purpose! To have the freedom of choice! To be able to hope, to experience, to love! Truly, these are the gifts that light brings!

Let us not ignore the blessing of light that that allows us to see and understand! Let us glory in it, and share its life giving force! May you always see the light shining in the darkness!
