"Day and Night"

"Good morning my child!" The Lord did say.
He shares His love with me.

A wonderful bright sunrise kiss!
A greeting sweet indeed!

A canvass painted by His hand.
The colors speak to me.

A witness sure that He is there.
For those who want to see!

The sunbeams burst behind the clouds,
Their fingers stretching out.

They touch my face and reach my skin,
Warming all about.

The silhouette of mountains high.
The light at tips of trees.

The sun is high, it makes more clear,
Creations meant to be.

Then evening comes, He says good night.
The sunset whispers in.

The darkness now replaces light.
The brightness it has dimmed.

"Sweet dreams my child! Its time to rest!
I'll bring in all the stars!

That you may know that I am here,
And never quite so far!"

POET'S COMMENTS

Have you taken time to consider the blessing of day and night?

"And God said, Let there be light; and there was light... And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness... And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day." (Genesis 1:3-5)

The complex nature of establishing day and night is noteworthy. Our Heavenly Father who for millions and millions of years has been organizing galaxies, placed this earth in an exact orbit around the sun. He knew eternal laws that governed universes. With that knowledge and His omnipotence, He positioned the earth on an axis in a precise rotation. This tilt and motion allowed for time to be measured in terms of night and day. It is amazing that every element utilized to create this miracle, functions within the absolute and eternal laws that God Himself had decreed. This reality of night and day is spectacular as we witness it every twenty four hours.

The creation of night and day is perhaps the first time on this planet that the law of opposition was introduced. The light would rule the day and the darkness would rule the night.

Much like life, when we have the light of Christ, we see the gospel plan of happiness much clearer. Without the light of Christ to guide us, our vision is impaired with darkness and obscurity.

There is a wonderful musical named "Annie." Annie is an orphan girl who in one part of the story sings a song titled, "The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow." The lyrics of this delightful musical piece suggest a new day will dawn, a fresh start, a new opportunity, a brightness of hope. Surely, the Lord would have us approach each day with such enthusiasm and excitement.

The sunrise of day has many symbolisms. I like to think of the resurrection that will one day bless us all. Day brings light and with it, good works, witnesses of God's many creations, mountains, rivers, and streams, the plants in all their splendor, animals of all varieties. A richness of life all around is daylight's legacy. The sunset signals a time to rest from our labors and reflect upon the miracles enjoyed that day.

Counsel has been given as to how to use day and night: "retire to thy bed early, that ye may not be weary; arise early, that your bodies and your minds may be invigorated." (D&C 88:124)

The poem points towards the miracles and beauties of each day. A special witness of God's love is manifested each day and night, for He created this earth for you and I, that we might have joy.

Sunrise represents His greeting each day, and Sunset symbolizes His kiss good night. His stars remind us of all the blessings He has in store for the true and faithful. All witness of His love.

What a wonderful blessing, day and night!
